In April 2024, EPA announced the first federal drinking water standards for six PFAS compounds, including PFOA and PFOS. Learn more about these standards with Silent Spring Institute's news update.
Prior to this, some states had proposed or adopted their own guidelines or enforceable standards. Some of these are based on the levels of individual PFAS chemicals, while others are based on the sum of multiple PFAS chemicals. In light of the new federal standards, some states are re-evaluating their own state regulations.
